Excise policy case : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 22 withdrew from Supreme Court his plea against arrest by Enforcement Directorate (ED). He was arrested by the probe agency last night

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 22 withdrew from the Supreme Court his petition challenging arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He was arrested by the probe agency last night in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court refused to entertain BRS leader K Kavitha’s bail plea who was arrested last week in the same case. The court, however, issued a notice on her plea challenging certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Kejriwal’s arrest on March 21 came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him protection from any coercive action by the agency.

The 55-year-old leader’s arrest, amid campaign for the Lok Sabha polls 2024, drew angry reactions from his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“Arrests have been done in politics in the past. However, the minimum human values, that even the Britishers used to consider, are not being followed. The Central government is not allowing anyone to meet Arvind Kejriwal’s family since yesterday,” AAP leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
