Issues notice to ED : The Supreme Court refused to provide an immediate relief to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had challenged the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy case.

Issues notice to ED : The court however issued notice to ED in the plea and directed that it file a response to Kejriwal’s petition by April 24. The case is now likely to come up for hearing in the last week of April.

Kejriwal, moved the apex court challenging the order of Delhi High Court upholding the validity of his arrest. The HC held that material collected by the ED revealed he was actively involved in the use of proceeds of crime. Issues notice to ED

Furthermore, according to the HC Kejriwal’s allegations against pardon to people making statements against him amounts to casting aspersions on judiciary and questions the judicial process. Kejriwal’s arrest:

On March 21, hours after the Delhi High Court refuse to protect Kejriwal from arrest, the ED arrested him in the Delhi liquor policy case. Though the Delhi CM moved the Supreme Court challenging his arrest, he withdrew it after deciding to challenge his remand by the ED. Issues notice to ED

ED contended that Kejriwal did not turn up for enquiry when summonses were issued to him and was also non-cooperative, thus sought for his remand. Kejrwial was in ED custody till April 1, pursuant to court orders. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody till April 15 and is currently housed in Tihar jail. Issues notice to ED
